Forged pistons very ductile and hot. SS valves very not. Like a knife through buttah. If these were cast or hyper pistons you'd just have a window in the top.

That one looks a little to good to be real...but valve float on an interference engine.
One way, say you 'money-shift' (accidently downshift to 3rd from 4th instead of shifting up to 5th at redline), it can cause mechanical over rev. That's where even though your ECU may not allow your engine to turn 10,000rpm, it does anyway because you downshifted. That can cause the valve float. Basically the valve spring isn't strong enough to close it fast enough at that high of an rpm and it 'floats' open. Some engines have enough clearance between the piston and valves that even if completely out of sync, they can't touch. Some engines though, they can. That's non-interference vs. interference. It can also happen if your timing belt breaks on an interference engine. Then the valves become out of sync, and they kiss.

Interference engines.... Timing belt probably let go at high RPM. Valve was thrown open as the piston was coming up. Usually you just get a bunch of bent valves and the head gets junked. Also, looks like an aluminum piston against a hardened steel valve.

It's definitely a concern with interference engines. The 2JZ-GE is non-interference while the VVTi version is interference. IS300 owners (and GS300) are religious about the 90k service.
